big changes at Facebook - what does this mean for SEO?

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook has just announced some big changes to the way facebook works. Among these changes are the removal of regional networks and the simplification of privacy settings. What do these changes mean for search engine optimisation? Well, if you are relying on using regional networks for seo and online marketing, then you will have to rethink your strategies. Also, the updated privacy settings may make it more difficult to add contacts.

I've seen in the last year a lot more people using groups, and far fewer using networks. Networks used to be a good source of getting contacts, but I have always thought that the way facebook uses networks is a bit awkward and a better system of categorisation and organisation of contacts should be based on users own personal organisational preferences. This is partially what groups enable. If you want to market your website via facebook, (and you dont want to spend money on facebook ads) then groups is the way to go.
