Google is now a teenager
Google turns 13 years old today, which means that it has officially become a teenager. So is Google going to become an anarchistic hoodie, protesting against the establishment and promoting freedom of expression, or is it now time for the big G to start acting like an grown up and take their responsibilities seriously?
To stay at the top, you have to constantly innovate and keep in touch with your users. You can't afford to let any competitors get the edge. In most respects, Google has done that. The initial challenge from Bing has not led to a serious loss of market share - especially in the advertising arena which is the most important aspect of it's business model. Similarly, other areas of google's dominance have held firm. Analytics is still unrivalled, Google Earth and Google Maps are still the best online mapping tools, and adwords is still the most popular PPC platform.
Google+ is still in its infancy, but initial take up figures look very good with over 43 million users and and increase in traffic of 1269% last week - challenging the stereotype that teenagers are anti-social and self obsessed.
